A new design to meet the challenge
The MBW 473-SHX was introduced in the summer of 2017 and has been an immediate success both in terms of practical performance and the number of instruments supplied.
The SHX is an evolution of the 473 series and was developed to meet the needs for high performance and traceable humidity measurement in demanding applications such as climatic test chambers, especially in the automotive field, where components are increasingly tested over wide temperature and humidity ranges.
For dew point measuring heads placed directly in to climatic test chambers, the challenge to our development team was to provide stable sample flow whilst meeting an operational temperature requirement up to 125°C. The solution is a new sample gas flow module based on a high temperature micro motor and a custom turbo impeller designed by MBW. The flow module fits directly to the SHX measuring head and can easily be removed and re-fitted.
The SHX measuring head is a completely new design, despite being similar in appearance to the original SH2 measuring head. Key elements include new optical components, higher specification materials and connectors. The development process included full working range performance qualification to establish temperature dependence. The result is a dew point mirror that can measure precisely over its full operating range with consistent measurement precision and negligible temperature coefficient.
The MBW 473-SHX brings laboratory precision to a wider range of industrial, calibration and test applications. In combination with the MBW T12 multichannel thermometer and GeckoR2 software, RH and temperature uniformity evaluation can also be performed. With all measurement parameters calibrated to an ISO17025 standard, traceable, low uncertainty measurement is now possible over the range -50 to +125 °C and humidity up to 100 %rh.
Our sales team and international business partners, with LAB-EL in Poland, have demonstration tools for evaluation.
